SUCCESS STORY

The Cleanup Krewe

The Cleanup Krewe rolled out as the last float in the 2019 Gulf Coast Carnival Association Fat Tuesday parade. Our float was made out of plastic waste and functioned as a debris collection space as the Krewe cleaned the parade route in real time using buckets, rakes, shovels, and more. The 40 volunteers that made up our Krewe consisted of a variety of community members and organizations that hope to start a larger dialog about how we can keep Mardi Gras Crazy Fun and Crazy Clean!! The Cleanup Krewe picked up 3 TONS of debris from the parade route that would have otherwise been left on the roadway overnight to be crushed by cars, washed into storm drains, and blown by the wind. See you next Mardi Gras!!
