SUCCESS STORY

The Greenhouse on Porter and Greenhouse Biloxi

The Greenhouse on Porter opened its doors in January 2015 with the goal of creating a space to support the community. In doing so, one of our many goals was and still is to use as little plastic as possible. We serve all of our to go food in bakery boxes, paper bags and soy based deli paper. Our hot cups are paper with plant based lids, and our cold cups are also plant based material. For a long time we used straws made with hay, and have recently found plant based sip lids which require no straws at all.

The pandemic has made our to go usage much much heavier. We have been able to source paper and molded fiber trays and plates to go along with our cardboard bakery boxes and paper bags. We find our success in the seamlessness of the transition for our customers. No one bats an eye, and most probably don’t notice the difference. We are also very excited that plant based materials are more widely available. We find that our customers are asking for non plastic alternatives and we are very excited to be able to meet their needs in that way.
